When Place Farm House approached us in late 2023, they had a clear vision: to create outdoor spaces truly worthy of the people who would live in them. This renovation had been a long-term priority since 2017, but COVID and other complications had repeatedly pushed it back. When the building extension finally got underway, they brought us on board, and by June 2025, that vision had become a reality in the form of a landscape that honours Place Farm House's heritage while embracing everything a thoughtful modern care environment should be.

Where Old Meets New
Place Farm House in Brighton is a building of two eras, and its grounds now reflect that story. The original Victorian farmhouse sits alongside a striking contemporary extension. Rather than disguising this contrast, the landscape celebrates it.
From the moment you arrive, the tone is set by bespoke entrance gates adorned with golden butterflies, the personal motif of Place Farm House, framed by a new boundary wall and softened by lush, carefully chosen planting.
Designed Around Residents
Every decision was made with the comfort and wellbeing of elderly residents in mind. Gently curving, seamlessly levelled pathways wind through both the front and rear gardens, ensuring everyone can move freely and safely. A peaceful lawn and summerhouse offer a quiet retreat. We created a courtyard feel for the space between the old and new buildings opposite the main entrance. A central water feature with a jet adds sound and movement. whilst denoting the main entrance. Beautiful planting and carefully positioned benches create a relaxing space for residents and visitors to enjoy.
The previous unsightly Leylandii trees along the western boundary were removed along with other overgrown planting and lighter canopy more attractive trees were planted to compensate. The site is now more open flooding the new extension's glazing with natural light and creating a seamless connection between indoors and out.

The transformation speaks for itself. By day, light-filled interiors open onto inviting outdoor spaces. By night, warm uplighting brings the brick, planting and architecture to life in equal measure.

As the client put it: "The design they created was above any expectations we had… Their ability to turn ideas into reality was high class. Lea's passion and attention to detail ensured everything was perfect."
That commitment to getting every detail right is something we share with the team at Place Farm House. Place Farm House has recently been ranked in the top 20 in all of Sussex on carehome.co.uk and we’re proud to have supported them with their journey. It's a well-deserved recognition for a place that has always put its residents first. Now, its grounds do exactly the same.
